It should allow you to import nifti files into bvisa directory format.
It should also allow you export ima files into nifti format.
It should take care of the orientation conversions

Not to mention that it won't even work in 3.1 version since the directory structures are different. Oh. well, we still be using 3.0 for a while

Indeed, the directory structures are different in Brainvisa 3.1 but there is a process to convert existing databases in the 3.1 version format. It's in : management -> convert old databases.
