Scanner Resolution - dpi calculation

Post by M.Stehmann »

Dear all,

I'm a new user and i am not sure about my scanner resoultion. I'm using the toolbox BrainRAT and the post mortem imaging rebuilt 2D <=> 3D - stacking individual slices.

There I need to set the Scanner_Resolution in dpi. The default value is 600dpi, but I think my resolution is different.

My information about the scanner images are:
It is 384x384 for a resolution of 0.141x0.143mm^2 in the plane and a slice thickness of 0.34mm (36 slices).

Now i would calculate that my plane FOV is 54.144 x 54.912mm. This would be in inches 2.13x2.16.
Now if i divide my matrixsize 384x384 by my inches 2.13x2.16 i get dpi values of 180dpi and 178dpi.

Is my calculation correct?

And which number of these both is the numer i should take. Is this diffenence of 2dpi important anyway?

Thank you in advance.
Best greetings,
Marina

Dear M. Stehmann,

Sorry to answer your question so late, your scanner resolution calculation seems to be right.
It is not usual that images generated by a flatbed scanner are anisotrope. Meanwhile, voxel sizes are really similar in X and Y directions so you can use 180dpi for the image resolution.
